The Challenge
The Battlebox, a historic underground bunker in Singapore, faced several challenges:
- Visitors wandered through without guidance, missing the historical context
- The reverberant acoustics of the bunker made traditional audio guides difficult
- Text-based exhibits failed to engage visitors emotionally
- The complex tunnel system needed better visitor flow management
The Solution
Cinewav X worked with Fingertips to create the Enhanced Experience at The Battlebox. We focused on creating a driving narrative that uses each room as a jumping off point to retell the fall of Singapore during the Japanese invasion.
The immersive audio tour chronicles the last days before the surrender by British and allied forces, meeting both the need of the venue to direct people through the various tunnels and rooms and to reduce the reverberant noise in the bunker.
The Approach
We strongly believe in narrative storytelling that guides and creates context for exhibits. Instead of leaving visitors to read text panels, Cinewav created a cohesive narrative journey that:
- **Guides visitors** through the complex tunnel system
- **Provides historical context** for each exhibit and room
- **Reduces noise pollution** in the reverberant space
- **Creates emotional engagement** through storytelling
The Impact
The results speak for themselves through visitor testimonials:
What Visitors Said
"The audio was excellent, really helpful and informative. Gave a good background to the events leading up to and following the British surrender. A bit horrifying really, how little world leaders have learned from our past. Thank you for providing this insight to history."
— S. Hopper
"An excellent tour that covers the history of Singapore, particularly in the Asia Pacific region. I'll certainly be recommending this tour to my friends and colleagues as money well spent. Thank you."
